　　20世纪50年代，英格兰。迈克尔神父Father Michael（克里斯托弗·李饰）因为建立了一个在外面人看是天主教的撒旦邪教，被逐出教会。
　　70年代初，伦敦。神秘的美国作家约翰·弗尼John Verney（理查德·威德马克饰）来到他所喜欢的亨利·贝多斯Henry Beddows（德诺姆·艾略特饰）的艺术画廊告知其资助事项。此刻，亨利正试图摆脱一个撒旦邪教对他自己及他女儿凯瑟琳Catherine（娜塔莎·金斯基饰）的影响，他请求亨利的帮助，去秘密接机——凯瑟琳作为一名修女，一直在德国巴伐利亚一个名为“耶和华的孩子们”的与世隔绝的湖心修道院修行，每年只有一次，即在她的生日期间才被允许回到英国与她的父亲团聚。
　　约翰感到这将可能成为他下一部小说的素材，于是应允帮助亨利。
　　在希思机场，约翰甩掉了凯瑟琳的保镖，把年轻的修女带到了自己的公寓。他不知道，18年前，凯瑟琳的母亲在分娩时死亡，更不知道当时女婴的父亲亨利与迈克尔神父签署了一项协议——出生于万圣节前夕的凯瑟琳被预先选择成为了一个特殊的角色——在她18岁生日的那天，她注定要成为撒旦的女儿……
