　　哈密顿将军（C·奥布雷·史密斯 C. Aubrey ㊟㊟ith 饰）的严苛和无情在军队中人尽皆知，麦克格雷上校（加里·库柏 Gary Cooper 饰）深受其苦，希望他能够有所改变。将军的儿子史东（理查德·克洛维尔 Richard Cromwell 饰）的到来让麦克格雷上校看到了一丝希望，然而，史东却是狂妄自大的纨绔子弟，一次意外中，他落入了敌军的手中。
