◎简　　介

　　赫伯特大夫在和妻子结婚24年后分手了。一天晚上，他离开孩子，到医院值班。患有糖尿病的谢弗尔大夫和一个护士关系暧昧，在他手上还出过一次医疗事故。这天晚上，赫伯特大夫发现谢弗尔大夫死在病房的床上，很多人认为他是死于糖尿病。但接着，又有两个人离奇地死去：一位大夫和一个护士都死在发现谢弗尔大夫尸体的那张床上。这显然是谋杀。医院里人心惶惶，人人自危。这时，一个叫芭芭拉的女人到医院来为父亲办理转院手续，她的父亲患有失心症，为教会作出过不小的贡献，是墨西哥有名的大夫。赫伯特大夫对芭芭拉很有好感。芭芭拉劝赫伯特同她一起去墨西哥。但赫伯特却发现：芭芭拉的父亲因为对于乱搞男女关系的极度仇视，便借失心疯之名（其实并不严重）接连杀死了三个人。为不让芭芭拉伤心，赫伯特帮助芭芭拉将其父亲送到了墨西哥，而自己则留下来承担罪名。
