　　影片取材于享誉法国文坛的乡土（尤其是普罗旺斯风情）作家让·季奥诺（Jean Giono；1895年3月30日~1970年10月8日）的自传体小说《嫩小子》（Jean le Bleu；1932）。
　　一战结束后的法国普罗旺斯一村庄。手艺不错的面包艾马布勒·卡斯塔涅Aimable Castanier（雷米饰）的妻子奥蕾莉Aurélie（吉内特·勒克莱尔饰）是个比丈夫年轻许多的漂亮女人，日复一日地卖面包、收钱对她来说已是无聊至极。有一天，她对跟着卡斯唐侯爵Le marquis Castan（沙尔潘饰）后面来拿面包的一个年轻的牧羊人（让·卡斯唐饰）很对光，便勾引他与他私奔了。老实巴交的艾马布勒爱妻子，很伤心，但又无可奈何。他用关了烤面包炉来填补内心的冤屈，借酒消愁，甚至还企图㊟㊟。本堂神甫（罗贝尔·瓦捷饰）讲遍了上帝之经也无法安抚村民们的怨道，因为村里村外人的生活都少不了艾马布勒所烤制的美味面包，而奥蕾莉又如同艾马布勒生活中的一只温柔小猫，也不可缺少。只有想办法把奥蕾莉找回来让他们破镜重圆才能解决问题，于是村里人都动员起来。当神甫发现两个贪情年轻人的藏身之处时，牧羊人深感夺人之妻的罪过而溜之大吉。奥蕾莉重又回到艾马布勒的身边，这一次她决心永远好好做一个面包师的妻子。艾马布勒更是原谅了奥蕾莉，还破天荒地让她来点面包铺重新生意烘炉的第一把火。
