　　罗伯特奥特曼导演兼与人合作编剧的本片，描写十九世纪末，比尔率领他的剧团在美国西部巡回表演的情形。侧重描写了比尔掉臂布尔是个印第安人而把他看成朋友一样看待，在布尔死后，比尔一方面怀念他，一方面寻觅高人来替换布尔的脚色使剧团得以继续保存下去。影片以大量篇幅论述了十九世纪末美国艺人的生活以及他们的出色表演，同时也衬托了分歧本性的人物以及相互关系。本片在1976年第26届西柏林国际电影节上荣获金熊奖。被评价为史上最好15部西部片典范之一。
