　　最初的剧情介绍曾这样写道（但是剧组在拍摄过程中似乎改主意了）：故事描述一家绝密的科技公司开发出一款神奇软件，能够将人的意识和记忆传送到不受时间、地点和生命状态决定的虚拟空间中——换言之，人的意识和记忆被「云端」化了。在「云端」，意识能与一个非常真实的人工智能化身进行沟通……即便这些人已经死了。这家公司上市的日期越来越近，但这家公司里许多人的动机似乎有问题，而且技术本身也有问题。许多人想要毁掉这家公司，杀死所有在「云端」而人——无论这样做是否会改变人类的命运。
　　Gabriel Byrne扮演守旧的纽约移植医生Doc Wolff，负责掌管一家位于英国的、世界最先进的私人基金神经科学研究室。
　　Justin Chatwin扮演神经系统科学家Hale，是个性格傲慢的无政府主义者、实用主义者。
