　　二战期间，同盟国和轴心国展开军备竞赛，各国不断开发新式武器，旨在在挫败对手方面赢得先机。与老牌欧美工业国家相比，日本方面无论在资源还是技术上都远远落后于对手。经过技术人员和爱国志士的不断努力，终于独立开发出在二战期间名噪一时的零式战机。零式战机尽量减轻机身重量和防御能力，灵活性、攻击能力和续航能力大大提高，在太平洋开战初期占尽了优势。
　　横须贺海军基地的一等兵滨田正一和水岛和夫在长官的鼓励下，双双成为零式战机的驾驶员和后勤保障人员。他们满怀爱国热情，一次次驾驶战机冲上蓝天。与此同时，美军也针对零式战机对本国的战机进行更新，加上日本海陆军高层的固执，零式战机的辉煌一去不复返……
