　　查克·约曼和瑞查尔夫妇带着他们的孩子来到一个风景宜人，远离喧嚣的湖边小镇。他们以为找到了一片适合一家人生活的净土。他们在...查克·约曼和瑞查尔夫妇带着他们的孩子来到一个风景宜人，远离喧嚣的湖边小镇。他们以为找到了一片适合一家人生活的净土。他们在这里游泳，乘帆船，自由自在。可不久他们听说这湖边发生过谋杀案，十几年前失踪的人，仿佛和这个湖有关系。当地的男孩乔恩和爸爸麦尔克姆生活在一起。瑞查尔经常和乔恩在一起谈到很多以前的事情。这令麦尔克姆十分不快。没想到原来麦尔克姆的妻子玛莎在十几年前因另有新欢欲远离乔恩，使得麦尔克姆心理大受打击将其杀死，放置在湖边的小屋中。在其后连续的几年中麦尔克姆杀死很多人和玛莎做伴。因约曼一家知道了这个秘密，也被麦尔克姆追杀，在争执中瑞查尔救下自己的丈夫，脱离了危险。
