　　影片以写实的手法，通过反映各色人物的心理，表现出美国社会存在的矛盾。纵观整个影片，情节安排、技巧处理、演员的表演都算是出色的，曾获第42届（1969）最佳导演等9项提名，结果只获得最佳男配角1项金像奖。
