　　某夏夜，芳龄十九岁的嘉儿被四名匪徒袭击和㊟㊟。这次严重的创伤毁灭了她的世界:她拒绝让自己的身体有任何感觉，欲望已死，不再相信别人所讲的说话。心底的伤痛不能向人倾诉，嘉儿的心灵被啃蚀，逐步走向崩溃的边缘。她再没有言语可表达自己是谁，唯有把自己躲藏起来。＂ 　　妈妈…… 他们不但偷去我生命也偷去了我的身体，我多么希望能蜷缩在您的体内，好让我重获生命。＂在昏暗的灯光下，嘉儿对著母亲的照片呢喃，似乎希望从中找到安慰和保护。导演桑德莲．雷茵在《活著就是生命》这部电影中以非常写实的手法处理㊟㊟这困难的主题，透过描写女主角嘉儿在受创后尝试重拾自我的心路历程把我们卷进她的争扎和感情漩涡中，藉此洗净女主角与我们生命中多余的累赘。 　　这电影感人之处部份是源于并不是任何外来力量使她摆脱痛苦──重要的是她自己的行为如何影响她，就像我们在影片中看到的，她做为了证明自己仍然存在，尝试以酒精和性来燃点生命的火花。然而，真正让她重获活下去的力量却是来自她与其他人的关系，不论是手足情、友爱、情欲或是恋爱。《活著就是生命》毫无疑问是一部十分感人的电影。
