简　　介

　　影片报告了美国南方农民本德伦为遵照对妻子的许诺，率百口将其尸体运回故乡埋葬的“磨难过程”。整整十天的路程灾难重重：洪流差点把棺材冲走，后来拉车的骡子被淹死，大火将尸体焚化。成果宗子落空了一条脚，老二发了疯，三子落空心爱的马，女儿堕胎不成，反被药房伙计奸污，小儿子也没获得向往的小火车，而本德伦却装上了假牙并娶回了一位新太太。
