简　　介

　　杰克·史坦顿是南方的一个州长，他是个天生的政客，所做一切都服从于最终当选美国总统这一最高目标。在他那位能干的妻子的鼎力支持下，在1992年民主党总统争夺战中，赢得了许多选民的青睐，有人甚至拿他与肯尼迪相比。但是，时间一长，杰克私生活中的许多污点就暴露出来了：逃避兵役，令少女怀孕等等不光彩的事都被抖落出来，为了掩盖这些丑闻，竞选小组使用了种种手段。这时，亨利·伯顿出现了。他是黑白混血儿，祖父是著名民权领袖，他本人很早就在政界摸爬滚打。全片以他的视角来看待竞选的整个过程。
